Celebrating the fusion of fashion and music…

Our new Fashion and Music event in association with Fat Talent ( www.fattalent.com) kicked of ending of last month as 3 emerging designers were given the opportunity to showcase their design collections to a music and fashion crowd, at the well renowned Arts venue “In on the Green” in Portobello. The fantastic models were from Clear 2 Model management and sure did leave an impact on the crowd.

Today I went down to Phloh magazine's exclusive shoot for their face of Phloh modelling competition.

It took place at the photographer, Manolo's ( www.manolo-photography.com ) studio.

Styling the shoot was model/singer Charleene Rena who beautifully graced the cover of Phloh magazine's March issue.

The make-up artist, Polly Colville done such a fantastic job with the models and created a strong 60's/70's inspired look for Sydney's (Model) look.

Sydney look absolutely fantastic and wore a mini 60's A-line dress provided by Jenn's Boutique - www.jennsboutique.co.uk .

It has been reported that Uruguayan model Eliana Ramos is the next victim to die due to a heart failure caused by malnutrition.

“It’s As Cold as Ice” - By Yolande Letshou

So yesterday we shot the cover for our up and coming issue themed "New Year, New You" at London's Butlers Wharf.
The photographer was Pete Warburton, the make-up artist was Charlotte Barry and the model was off course the stunning Sharika Wells.

One word to describe this shoot would have to be "Icy"
It was freezing cold and despite the layering my toes still froze :(
But in return the shots were fantastic and well worth freezing my butt off for :)

The team worked really well together and Charlotte Barry’s expertise touch really enabled us to achieve the looks we wanted from the shoot.

Pete was a patient and down to earth photographer really getting down and into the shoot. Last but not least I have to congratulate our amazing model, Sharika Wells, for braving it in the cold. She looked absolutely stunning and we often had to wonder whether she was actually feeling the cold as she held it together really well J

Bargain Hunters be prepared...

It all started on Saturday evening...

I was getting ready for a night out to a close friend's Birthday Party when my Stunning friend Mary turnt up at my house - dead on time!!

As I opened the door I was immediately wowed by her amazing dress. The dress was gorgeous and looking a million pounds. With excitement I asked her where it was purchased so I could bag myself one. The answer was a mere "ASOS"- (As Seen On Screen)

What was even more pleasantly shocking was the price she paid for it. It only cost her £6 in their clearance range- What a Bargain!!

That was it for me I was determined to buy one even if I never get a chance to wear it, like most my clothes in my 3 ridiculously cramped wardrobes.

Topshop’s winning window!

I must say I have to give it to Topshop for their magnificent window display at their Oxford Street flagship store!

This display truly does make you stop and think carefully about how many animals are killed in the name of Fur! What’s also even more considering is the that whilst other shops have solely focused on the party theme (with xmas nearing), Topshop (Oxford Street) have sacrificed their large window (which could have been used to promote their fab xmas dresses) to express their concerns and support for “Animal rights”

Pepper Okwesa: Fashion Stylist for issue 2

Pepper was the other stylist for our shoot for issue #2 . She and Leila beautifully styled the gorgeous Abigail (model)

All about Pepper...

This fashionista has worked within all aspects of the fashion industry from Magazines (Pride, I:D, and more) to PR companies and event management, which includes organising shows, promoting up and coming designers and styling. Her major fashion influences are from the 50's and 80's (Electro Hip-Hop styles).
She explains "I come from an African Background where dressing up and being grand and flamboyant is part of our culture. So from an early age I loved playing dress up with mummies clothes." :)

Leila Dottin: Fashion Stylist for issue 2

Leila was one of the stylists for our shoot for issue #2 . She and Pepper beautifully styled the gorgeous Abigail (model)

All about Leila...

Originally trained as hair and make-up artist, Leila has previously been an Intern at B magazine, Celebs on Sunday and More magazine. At present she is a fashion assistant for Shout magazine and would eventually like to work within the music industry styling singers and bands :)

Photo Shoot Backstage- Issue 2

Today was our first photo shoot for issue 2. The shoot took place at the editor's home in North London. The vintage decor within the living room certainly complimented the range of vintage clothing from Jenn's Boutique that the models wore.

We had two fantastic photographers who were the lovely Katherine Jones and Darren Ball. As soon as they arrived you immediately knew they were pros. Their passion and enthusiasm ensured that it would be a fantastic shoot.

Nadine Leighton was our fantastic make-up artist for the shoot. Her knowledge and experience meant we were able to achieve exactly the looks we wanted.

Our two models were Emma and Abigail- (Read all about them in the "Our models" section of our official website)

Emma modeled a selection from Jenn's Boutique and the fantastic pink spiritually influenced T-shirt by Marchello Eans from his Crying tears collection.
Abigail's clothing was styled together by Leila Dottin of Shout magazine and Pepper Okwesa, a fashion enthusiast. Abigail also modeled a selection from Jenn's Boutique which included some fantastic jewelry and accessories.

Nolcha Launch Party... By Yolande Letshou

Today was the spectacular fashion show hosted by Nolcha . The event took place at beautiful CC club in London.

Four selected NYC designers unveiled their latest collections to an eagerly awaiting crowd.

I headed backstage to interview the two designers present at the event who were, Marcello Eans (http://www.cryingtears.com/) and Ana Segura (www.annieswebs.com ) I also interviewed the VR Models Agent owner who’s models show cased the collections on the runway. You can read all about what they had to say about their collections, fashion icons and modelling as a career all in our October issue.

Later on our gorgeous fashion writer Krysty Hayzell came to review the show and our lifestyle columnist Fon Browndy also attended. Our lovely Mary Bello also joined us and our editorial assistant Ozlem Dogan joined us at the after party.

Nolcha Pre Show Party at Aura By Yolande Letshou

Today was a manic day for me as usual however after a couple of long meetings in Central London I met up with our editorial assistant Ozlem Dogan and we headed down to the Nolcha pre show Party at Aura, St James Street.

We were seated at a table with a fantastic bunch of people who we ended up partying the night away with.

The atmosphere was buzzing and the music was fantastic, with the DJ playing a fine selection of funky house which I love. I also finally got to meet the lovely Kerry Banningan (director of Nolcha.com) and also two of the designers showcasing their collections at tomorrow’s fashion show.

After a long night me and Ozlem headed back home for a good nights rest ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Our first issue finally arrived today and what a relief of joy it was! The team worked so hard and we love the copy which is of very good quality.

I sat on my very comfy couch and read through the copy and was very pleased with what had been achieved especially for a first issue.

Its not everyday you meet a fun interesting bubbly individual like Fon Browndy, our social life columnist.

So who is Fon?

Fon is a Cambridge graduate who studied Anthropology. As well as having brains she has an exceptionally witty writing style set to keep you wanted to read more.

Below is just a sample of one of her fun witty articles.

To Islington and Beyond...

Those of you who know me well will be astonished to hear that this weekend I ventured out of the Goth, Emo and Punk filled streets of Camden Town and hopped over to Angel for a slice of Islington life.

Following our journey through the filthy and strangely empty streets of Chapel Market after dark, we managed to make it passed the guerrillas on the door of an interesting establishment called 'Elbow Rooms'. The cheerful £2 entrance fee and warm greeting from the second row of guerrillas marked the beginning of our initiation into a whole new world...

A world where 'classy' is defined by a bar illuminated with lilac lamps and quirky bar staff. Seating areas littered with rectangular mirrors and navy blue tiles. A world where women are not afraid to display their love handles and stretch marks and men not ashamed to rock their scuffed, dated Gucci loafers and checked Next shirts! A world wear tarts, Chavs and serious RnB and Hip Hop fans dance and sweat side by side… This place truly is amazing!

Reflectively I find it amusing how every now and again something or someone will come along and completely change your opinions and/or perception of reality, for example the similarities between Elbow Rooms and Bada Bing... yeah that strip club from the Sopranos is really quite striking. I was half expecting topless women to arrive in their clear heels and layers of unflattering make-up at any moment! The amount of non-shalont young guns asserting their prowess way passed their bed times made me wonder why the legal drinking age in this country is still 18?

Elbow Rooms is a pleasantly spacious meat market – great for entertaining guests! However handing over £8 for use of the pool table for an hour and £5.40 for a double Vodka lime and lemonade to the nice but somewhat over-enthusiastic barman (who incidentally closely resembled Clark Kent) did leave us feeling a little cheated, considering liquor in run down Camden pubs is a little cheaper, as are the pool games.

However, despite this rather harsh critique, the music was excellent and so was the atmosphere. The DJ's lively, commercial beats more than compensated for our financial losses. The night ended with a bad rendition of Pussy Cat Dolls "Dontcha", me pole dancing round a pool cue and an estranged American girl stripping for kicks…

And you thought Camden was bad?

Our first magazine photo shoot...

Theme: Tropical elegance

Today was a long yet exciting day. Our first magazine photo shoot meant not much sleep and plenty of preparation.
The Editor was up at 6am ensuring everything was ready and organised for our 9am photo shoot take off.

The location was a stylish Islington (Angel) apartment where the Editor and Make-up Artist Katherine, stayed for the night.
By 9am everything was ready and the photographer Pete Joyce and his assistant Clare Joyce had arrived and started setting up.

Models Sharika, Dominique and Laura had also arrived and were waiting patiently to get their hair and make-up done.

Whilst the photographer continued to set up his equipment, the models one by one got their make-up done by Katherine Anasa using some fantastic products from Mary-K cosmetics.The hair was styled elegantly by Latifah Jolie- who previously worked at Toni and Guy.

The models wore the modern, sophisticated elegant dresses by UK designer Simone Williams and great footwear from Terra Plana (an ecko friendly brand) and a selection of vintage shoes from Jenn’s Boutique.
Adre Willemse , our fashion writer also popped by to see how the shoot was going and Ronke- Simone William’s business partner, also popped by to observe the shoot.

After a long tiring day we ended the shoot by stuffing our faces with a selection of pizzas.

The photographers Pete and Clare Joyce did a fantastic job and we achieved some amazing results.

All the models looked fab and were great fun to work with! One more shoot to go and were done...

North London's new fashion and lifestyle magazine

8 July will see the launch of a new bi-monthly fashion and lifestlye magazine aimed at women living in North London. The title of the magazine will be 'La Geneve North'.

The magazine's mission is " to inform and entertain local fashion and lifestyle enthusiasts through presenting them with an exciting mix of high quality fashion and lifestyle content”.

La Geneve North will be written by a number of experienced fashion and lifestyle writers, delivering rich editorial pieces.

The magazine is set to reach a modern influential target of women aged 19-35 who fall within the ABC1 Category. Their Primary interests include fashion, beauty and living a contemporary lifestyle. Our target readership are constantly seeking information on products and services.

La Geneve North magazine will reflect the essence of the everyday fashion enthusiast woman , thus moving away from a predominantly celebrity focused editorial.
